Travel Arrangements & Insurance Information for Holiday Clients

Nordic Challenge is not a tour operator and our clients need to make their own travel arrangements. We will advise you on the most suitable flights and transfer arrangements for your specific holiday.

For all our Holidays and Courses

Flights

We recommend that clients fly direct to Oslo International (Gardermoen) where they can catch a train from within the airport to Vinstra. Carriers that fly direct are:
  • BA and SAS from Heathrow
  • SAS from Manchester
  • Norwegian from Edinburgh and Gatwick.

Clients can book KLM flights to Oslo from a variety of different provincial airports, but these flights involve a change at Amsterdam.

Clients can also fly Ryanair from London Stansted and Manchester to Oslo Rygge (on the South coast of Norway about 40 minutes travel time South of Oslo). Although these flights can be financially attractive, clients should be aware that a flight to Oslo Rygge will incur additional transfer costs to reach Vinstra.

Ideally, we recommend that outward flights should be early morning flights to allow transfer to the hotel during daylight hours.

Return flights should be late afternoon or early evening flights and preferably not before 1515.

Transfer Arrangements

For the outward journey

  • We recommend that clients transfer from Oslo (Gardermoen) to Vinstra using the Norwegian national rail company NSB. Trains can be booked on line at www.nsb.no. A convenient train to catch departs Oslo (Gardermoen) at 1429 and arrives at Vinstra at 1710. Clients will be collected from Vinstra station, which is only 20 minutes from the hotel. Train times may be subject to alteration when a new timetable is published in October 2016. Trains can only be booked on line three months (or later) before the date of travel. Nordic Challenge will remind clients of this by e-mail well in advance.

For the return journey

  • We recommend that our clients use www.nsb.no to book the 1156 train from Vinstra, which arrives at Oslo (Gardermoen) at 1432. Clients will be taken to Vinstra station by hotel mini-bus to catch this train. Return flights should therefore be booked for after 1530. This is important as the alternative transfer arrangements may involve a very early bus, or a train from Lillehammer, which could involve an additional and substantial transfer fee. (Special arrangements will be made for those clients flying to home destinations served by only one early flight).

Cautionary Note. All quoted train times are liable to minor alterations when NSB revises its timetables in October 2016.

Booking flights

Flights can be booked on line as follows:

Insurance

All Nordic Challenge clients must have individual Winter Sports and Holiday Travel insurance cover. Insurance should cover cancellation of flights by either the carrier or the client.

A Final Note on Travel Arrangements

The earlier flights are booked, the cheaper the price!
